Metro MDV-1BA DataVac Pro Vacuum/Blower

Electric Duster - Metro Vac Blower 2

For those who have wondered if there is an electric air duster that can serve as a vacuum and blower……well, wonder no more! We found the Metro Vacuum MDV-1BA Datavac Pro 4.5 Amp Computer Vac Blower. ( Wow, what a long name.) Metro has developed it’s own vacuum/blower hybrid. Let’s take a look!

As A Blower

As a blower, the Metro MDV-1BA Vacuum/Blower holds it’s own. The Motor runs at 0.75 horsepower, which is the same as the Metro ED 500 Datavac. Some have said that the blow force is comparable to the Metro ED500, while others have said that it is not as powerful. When we tested it, we noticed that it simply didn’t seem as powerful as the Metro ED500. I think there may be two reasons as to why it seemed this way.

#1) The more purposes you have on a unit, the greater the chance that some areas will be skimped on. If a product has one purpose, most likely it is going to do that one thing and do it well. — #2) This unit is made in America and  the Metro ED500 is made in China. Maybe there is a difference in the manufacturing or construction? At any rate, this unit does a good job as a blower overall.

As A Vacuum

As a vacuum, the Metro MDV-1BA Vaccum/Blower definitely does what it is supposed to do……and that is to suck out dust and debris that a “normal” vacuum can’t get to. Because of the 19 inch hose and the versatility of the attachments, you can definitely reach around objects, get underneath, and go over the top of objects. This unit is not as powerful as a normal vacuum cleaner, but it wasn’t meant to be. It is a “pinpoint“, “spot-on“, vacuuming unit, and it does a great job!

One issue that was raised was it’s inability to maintain sucking power when certain attachments were used. Apparently, when the “smallest tip” is used, suction power diminishes somewhat. So, for those tiny cracks and crevices, you may want to blow the dust and debris out first. Then suck it up with the vacuum, rather than vacuum it directly.

During the vacuuming phase, the dust and debris is funneled into a disposable bag that is inside of the unit. When it comes to small lightweight vacuuming units like this, most people would rather open up the lid of a compartment and empty the contents into a trash bag.

To me, that seems easier, but here you have to switch out the used bag for a new disposable bag. You are supplied with 5 bags with your purchase, but if you are going to use the unit for a long time, be prepared to buy some bags.

Durability

It’s all-steel container makes it pretty resilient to any sort of physical damage that may arise from bumping it up against other objects or an occasional drop on the floor. What concerned us a bit was the motor. The Metro ED500 has a motor warranty of 5 years. That’s pretty darn good! I mean, it literally is common for that unit to last about 4 years…..and for about $50.00 that’s a great deal!

The Metro MDV-1BA Vacuum/Blower has a 2-year motor warranty. So, it really is up to you and what your needs are. Do your cleaning jobs require the assistance of a vacuum and blower, or do your jobs require a blower that is going to last you a long time? We just wanted to give you a heads-up on the life expectancy.

Overall

Overall the Metro Vacuum MDV-1BA Datavac Pro 4.5  Amp Computer Vac Blower is a fantastic idea! It does sell well and has a nice reputation. But it really seems like it is tailored for those who have cleaning jobs that require both vacuuming and blowing. It doesn’t have the suction power of a “regular” vacuum.

Nor, is it as powerful as the “Top of the LineElectric Air Dusters. We actually don’t think it was meant to be. It was meant to be a “Combination Unit” and that’s what it is. So for that, we Highly Recommend!
